Diane Bellotti Passes Away

This is the email we never wanted to send.  I'm sorry to tell you that Diane Bellotti passed away yesterday at 4:40PM.  She was in no pain and was surrounded by family – Tom and TJ were at her side.

She beat everything cancer threw at her and survived against incredible odds each time.  When she died, she was in remission both from ovarian cancer AND leukemia.   Her little body was just worn out and the lung infection eventually made it impossible for her to breathe.

Diny lived life to the fullest.  She loved adventure: skiing (snow and water), parachuting, parasailing, and even with an implanted morphine pump ,  she went jetskiing and this spring rode a zip line from mountaintop to mountaintop in the Dominican Republic!  She loved school sports, the Steelers, all animals, and eating king crab legs.     Most of all, she loved her family  — and all of you, her extended family.

Diny had "Life Rules" – mostly wry observations on the randomness of life – and one of her friends reminded me last week of one of the best Rules, which is "If someone invites you to do anything that sounds like fun, always say YES!"  And she always did.

She requested that her body be cremated and that we celebrate her life.  We're currently planning a memorial service and celebration for the latter part of July.  If you are interested in learning about the arrangements, please send an email to:  celebratediane@earthlink.net.

Thank you for your caring and support over the past 14 1/2 years, and for keeping us in your prayers.

Please email Tom and TJ at tbellotti@comcast.net.  I know they would appreciate hearing from you and Diny would appreciate it, too.

Love,
Robin

4 Lebo Wrestlers Earn All-State Academic Honors

Several members of the Blue Devil Wrestling Team were recently chosen for the PWCA (Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association) All-Academic Teams. Wrestlers are nominated by their coaches and selected based on a combination of grade point average and winning percentage.

Special congratulations to Adam Kemerer for being selected to the 1st team. Adam was one of only two WPIAL wrestlers, and the first Lebo wrestler selected for this prestigious academic honor. Adam is only a junior and wrestled 130 for Lebo this year. He is a 3x section place-winner and 3x WPIAL Qualifier.

Also, joining Adam was Scott Allen (Jr) who earned honorable mention. Scott qualified for the WPIAL Championships in 2009 and wrestled 171 for Lebo this year. Lebo also had two seniors make the second team. Congratulations to Andy Buttlar (Sr), and Austin VanHorn (Sr). Andy wrestled 103 and was a 3x WPIAL Qualifier and Austin wrestled 160 and was also a WPIAL Qualifier in 2009. Andy will attend Slippery Rock University next year while Austin VanHorn will be attending the University of Pittsburgh.

These wrestlers will join Chris Johns, who earned All-Acadmic Honors in 2009 (Second Team), as PWCA All-State Scholar-Athletes. Congratulations gentlemen!

We Need Your Help….

Blue Devil Wrestling Families and Supporters,

Our youth wrestling association is rallying to support one of our own. Chris  Marshall wrestled for the youth and most recently at Mellon Middle School this year. Chris is a great kid and comes from a very supportive wrestling family. In turn our wrestling community would like to return their support.. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. The wrestling association is taking up a collection and if you are interested in contributing please see the details below.

On behalf of the Blue Devil Wrestling Family,

Coach Lewis

As you may or may not know by now one of our wrestlers, Chris Marshall, was recently diagnosed with Leukemia this past weekend.  The family along with Chris are heading into a rough stretch the next couple of weeks.  He'll be getting several tests done along with chemotherapy.  Needless to say it will be a very stressful period for his parents Dean & Nancy and his brother John (another wrestler) so we decided to take up a collection to help them get through these troubling times.  If you could get them a gift card for something simple such as gasoline, Shop n Save, Giant Eagle, Subway, etc. (please no cash) I know it would be more than appreciated by Dean & Nancy.

Mary Rentler will be collecting and delivering all donations.  If you would like to help, then please drop off or mail to the following:

Mary Rentler
489 Sleepy Hollow Road
Pittsburgh, PA 15228

Thank you for your support.  Messages will be posted on Chris' progress.

High School Spring Fundraiser

High School Spring Fundraiser – Tennis Bubbles

We will be participating in our most important off-season fundraiser on Saturday, April 17. We have been asked, once again, to assist the recreation department in taking down the tennis bubbles. Report time will be at 8:00 AM. We will need all available wrestlers and also a core group of helpful parents. If we have enough people we should finish no later than 2:00 PM. Last year we finished closer to noon but had a great turnout of parents to help assist.

Please mark your calendars so that you can make sure your wrestler is able to help us with this important fundraiser. Also, any parent(s) who would be willing to help out please let Coach Allemang know at MAllemang@mtlsd.net. Thanks! In case of inclement weather the tentative rain date would be on Saturday, April 24 (make-up date only if needed).

HIGH SCHOOL – End of Season Wing Eating Contest

Another important date to mark on the calendar for you wrestler is Tuesday, April 20th. We will be having our annual Wing Eating Contest at Quaker, Steak & Lube (Robinson Towne Center). We will be meeting at the high school (pool entrance) at 5:00 PM and plan on carpooling to Quaker, Steak, & Lube. The competition will begin at 6:00 PM. Any parent wishing to help drive some kids and/ or PARTICIPATE in the Adult division is welcome to join us. If you are interested please email Coach Allemang at MAllemang@mtlsd.net.

Yours in wrestling,

Coach Lewis

Coach Hnath Goes To Nationals

Varsity assistant coach John Hnath had the honor of being selected as an official at the NCAA Division 1A Championships this past weekend.  If you get a chance to watch the replay on one of ESPN's channels you'll see him during the 149 lb match between Iowa's Brent Metcalf and Ohio State's Lance Palmer.
