Congratulations to Jack Gray for placing 4th at the Cotton Bowl Nationals in Dallas, Texas!

When people in Lebo hear the initials BP they immediately think of Bird Park from their kids soccer or lacrosse days. Well, last night a different BP handed the Blue Devils their fourth sub-section loss in a row – only this one came by the hands of cross-town rival Bethel Park losing 42-23. The Blue Devils are now 6-6 overall and 1-4 in the sub-section.
The Blue Devils did have 5 wins on the evening. Kevin Kinyua improved his record to 17-5 with a 10-0 major at 120 lbs., John Marshall evened his record at 10-10 with a 10-8 decision at 145 lbs., and Matt Patrick dominated his opponent at 195 lbs winning 9-1 and increasing his record to 17-5 on the season. The Blue Devils also added an additional 12 team points with forfeit wins by Sammy White (15-6) at 106 lbs. and Sean Perri (2-0) at 113 lbs.
The Blue Devils now head to the North Allegheny Quad this weekend where they'll face some of their toughest competition of the season. The opponents on the schedule include North Allegheny, Latrobe, and either Erie McDowell or Chartiers-Houston.
The Mellon Jr High wrestlers captured 5th Place at the Blackhawk Jr High tournament this past weekend. Congratulations to Shane Lefever for grabbing the 1st Place Gold at 155!!! Also turning in excellent performances were Ian McCabe (80) and Brian Perri (90) bringing home 2nd Place Silver medals. Not to be outdone were Jack Austin (85) and Turner Gray (105) – both captured 3rd Place Bronze medals.
The Varsity Blue Devils finished 12th out of 40 teams by placing 6 wrestlers this weekend at the Allegheny County Championships . Chris Vayo (182) had an outstanding tournament making it the the Championship Finals where he lost a close decision 11-9 earning a 2nd Place Silver Medal. Lebo had 5 other grapplers earn All-County Awards. Kellan Stout (160) and Matt Patrick (195) both earned 5th Place awards; Sammy White (106) and Kevin Kinyua (113) earned 7th Place awards; Giancarlo Lies (152) earned an 8th Place finish.
The Varsity Blue Devils brought home a 3rd Place finish out of 23 teams at the West Mifflin Holiday Tournament placing in 8 of 14 weight classes.
Lebo grabbed 2 Gold Medals – Giancarlo Lies (152) & Kellan Stout (160). Seniors Chris Vayo (182) and Matt Patrick (195) captured Bronze Medals. Lebo's other place winners were Sammy White – 4th (106), Kevin Kinyua – 5th (113), Zeynul Zaynullayev - 6th (220), and Alexander Costello – 6th (285).
Sean Perri placed 4th (113) at the JV Powerade Tournament winning 4 of 6 matches.
The Varsity Blue Devils lost their first home sub-section match last night to the Peters Twp Indians 51-21. This drops their record to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in sub-section 4B.
Lebo's 21 points came by winning 5 of 14 matches. Chris Vayo won by fall to increase his record to 8-1 on the season, Matt Patrick improved his record to 7-2 with an 8-3 decision, Giancarlo Lies won a close bout 3-1 for his 7th win in 9 matches, and Kellan Stout added his 9th win of the year with a 4-3 victory. Kevin Kinyua earned his 7th forfeit of the season – moving his record to 9-0.
The JV Blue Devils went to the Butler JV Tournament and came home with 5 place winners.
Sean Perri (113) grabbed the Gold Medal, Louie Rentler (106) and Alexander Costello (220) nailed down Bronze Medals, and cousins Bakhtiyar (170) & Zeynul (220) Zaynullaev captured 5th Place.
The Varsity Blue Devils opened their home schedule Friday night with a 50-21 win over Montour winning 10 of 14 matches. The Blue Devils improved to 2-0 in the section and 6-2 overall.
The Blue Devils got pins from Giancarlo Lies, Chris Vayo, Matt Patrick, Zeynul Zaynullaev and Kellan Stout. Adding an additional 9 team points were Brady Schaer, Luke Siebert, and Bakhtiyar Zaynullaev winning by decision. Lebo punched the ticket with 12 points from Sammy White and Kevin Kinyua winning by forfeit.
The Blue Devils are preparing to face one of their toughest match-ups on the schedule when they host section rival Peters Twp. this Wednesday, December 21st at 7:30 in the South Gym.
